![]() Before we moved out of the province of Ontario, I used Ear Candling for personal use as well as for clients in my Healing space. At first I used to go to Heather H., a Karuna Reiki practitioner. When she moved away and I needed a good ear cleansing, I went to my family doctor. The syringing with water never did work well for me because I have one ear canal which is very narrow and convoluted thus very difficult to drain. I went through the discomfort of icky moisture in my ear for a couple of weeks which then led to more wax accumulation as my ear worked to resolve the issue. Thankfully I discovered that my Herbalist/Iridologist, Bruce C., also used ear candles so I went to him. Relief and comfort at last! I later purchased a couple of ear candles at a summer fair and tried them on myself. Doing ear candling on yourself is not at all something I would recommend because the candle must be held in a perfectly vertical position so that the wax which coats the outside of the muslin core will not seep down into your ear. I have a friend who did just that and she had to go to a doctor to have the wax removed! It is also tricky due to the need to snip off the burning muslin (at least four times during the process) which appears at the top as the candle burns down. That can be tricky for one person to manage. I tried the process on willing family and friends. The results were wonderful and I began to offer the service as part of my energy healing practice. When you come to me for a cleansing ear candling, you will be in the care of a capable, gentle, nurturing practitioner. Everything will be ready for your comfort and safety. The process will be explained and then you will relax as you lie comfortably on your side, covered snugly with a blanket and with your head on a soft pillow. Your outer ear, face and hair will be protected with my special towels. I will have ready: a small candle whose flame I will use to light the ear candles (one ear at a time), the hollow, beeswax ear candles (one for each ear), a bowl of water (in which to dowse the burnt muslin), scissors (to cut the burnt muslin off the top of the candle), a special pad on which to place all the items, a mirror in case you will want to take a peek at the procedure and towelettes to wipe your baby-clean ears. First the area around the ear will be massaged. If your neck is sore, you may opt for a neck massage as well either before or after the candling. The Procedure The top of the hollow ear candle will be lit and the bottom end (rounded to fit the opening to the ear canal, and with a small hole through which the earwax will flow into the chimney-like, hollow candle) will be held, non-invasively, upright just within the ear opening. You may hear a rushing sound at first then little taps, or a ‘flub-blub’, which indicate that the wax in your ear is softening and is being sucked, in a vacuum-like fashion, upward into the ear candle. I will remove the candle about 5 times to cut the burnt top off and unplug the hole in the bottom of the candle. When the ear candle is only 3″ long, I will remove it, gently wipe your outer ear and ask you to lie on the other side to cleanse the second ear. When both are finished, you will get up feeling fresh and relaxed. Your ears will feel baby-new – so clean and soft! Come and try it!
